Carer: Highborder Lodge, Stroud, Gloucestershire
Pay rate: £13.75 per hour

Role Overview
A Carer will be required to carry out all aspects of care for our service users, including personal care, physical and mental health support, and daily wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care including washing, toileting, hoisting, dressing, bathing and feeding.
- Attend to physical medical needs such as skin tears, ulcers, mobility assistance, oral hygiene and feeding.
- Support mental health needs including communication, activities and understanding.
- Assist with medication when required.
- Promote service users’ mental and physical wellbeing.
- Record all care daily using Person-Centred Software (PCS).
- Liaise with healthcare professionals including District Nurses, Social Workers, GPs, Consultants and Physiotherapists.
- Communicate with service users’ families and friends.
- Support infection control practices and procedures.
- Assist the Registered Manager and Senior Carers in the running of the home.
Dementia Focussed Care
- Use effective communication techniques tailored to individuals with dementia.
- Recognise signs of distress, agitation or anxiety and respond appropriately.
- Support meaningful activities that stimulate memory, promote inclusion and enhance quality of life.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Follow care plans on PCS for accurate recording.
- Observe and report changes in health or behaviour promptly.
- Maintain a safe, clean and welcoming environment in line with infection control standards.
Teamwork & Professional Practice
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and healthcare professionals.
- Attend regular training, supervisions and team meetings.
- Respect confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries.
Desirable Qualifications
A Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 2 (previously NVQ Level 2) and some experience in care is desirable but not essential.

Hours: 20 hours per week
Role Purpose
To maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment for residents, visitors and staff, supporting comfort, dignity and wellbeing throughout the home.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out daily cleaning of bedrooms, bathrooms, communal areas, corridors and stairways.
- Make beds daily and change linen as required.
- Support a clean, safe, home-like environment.
- Vacuum, mop and hoover floors including stairs and communal areas.
- Carry out deep cleans of bedrooms, kitchen and communal areas when required.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including correct use of cleaning products and PPE.
- Report spills, hazards or maintenance issues promptly.
- Manage laundry tasks including washing, drying, ironing, folding and putting away items.
- Work respectfully around residents, maintaining privacy and dignity.
- Dispose of waste safely, including clinical waste.
- Report cleanliness or hygiene concerns to the Manager.
Skills & Approach
Experience is desired but not essential.
Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
Friendly and respectful, with an understanding of older people’s needs.
Willing to follow guidance and attend training and meetings.
Flexible to work day and weekend shifts and provide cover when required.
Senior Carer (two positions)

A Senior Carer will be required to:
- Carry out all aspects of care for our service users including personal care. This includes washing, toileting, hoisting (where necessary), dressing, bathing, feeding and attending to specific care needs.
- Attend to service users’ physical medical health needs such as skin tears, ulcers, assistance with mobility, oral hygiene, feeding etc.
- Attend to service users’ mental health needs such as communication, activities, understanding.
- Assist with the administration of medication.
- Attend to service users’ mental and physical well-being.
- Record all care daily using the Person-Centred Software.
- Liaise with other healthcare professionals including District Nurses, Social Workers, the GP, Consultants, Physiotherapists, etc.
- Liaise with service users’ families and friends.
- Assist with infection control practices and procedures.
- Carry out administrative tasks as necessary.
- Assist the management staff with management tasks.
- Train and supervise carers and more junior staff.
- Assist with and complete risk assessment and service users’ care plans as necessary.
- Assist the Registered Manager with all aspects of running the Home.
- Be on call during out of hours if necessary.
Health and Safety & Medication Compliance
- Always wear the Red Medication tabard whilst administering medication.
- Administer and oversee safe storage of medication in line with policies and competencies.
- Ensure accurate recording and updating of care notes, risk assessments and handover reports.
- Uphold safeguarding, infection control and health and safety standards.
Weekly Medication Compliance Checks
- Ensure Medication Trolley is stored securely in the designated area.
- Review fridge and room temperatures for medication storage (record daily on the allocated documents provided)
- Check stock levels against the Emar system (balance counts correct)
- Confirm all controlled drugs are double signed and stored correctly.
- Identify and document any errors, omissions, or late does – report immediately to manager – raise the incident on PCS without delay.
- Ensure expired or discontinued medication is separated for return to pharmacy.
Monthly Medication Compliance Checks
- Carry out full audit for Emar for the month (accuracy, legibility, completion)
- Reconcile all medication delivered by pharmacy against records.
- Audit controlled drugs register (balances, signatures, dates).
- Review and update service users’ medication profiles and care plans.
- Check all homely remedies are authorised, labelled, and in date.
- Submit medication audit findings to Manager for review.
- Action with Manager and record follow ups for any discrepancies.
Repositioning service users with Skin Integrity Breakdown
- Ensure that all service users at have an up-to-date risk of pressure damage (or with existing breakdown) have an up-to-date repositioning schedule documented in their care plan.
- Allocate repositioning duties to care staff and monitor that they are carried out as prescribed.
- Supervise staff to ensure correct moving and handling techniques are used, in line with training and service users’ safety.
- Lead by example in assisting with safe repositioning, ensuring dignity and comfort.
- Confirm service users are repositioned at the required frequency (e.g., every 2 hours or as clinically instructed by the district nurse team.
- Ensure pressure – relieving equipment (mattress, cushions) is in place and used appropriately by all the care team.
- Ensure all the care team observe service users skin condition during repositioning, documenting and any changes or concerns
- Escalate any deterioration in skin integrity immediately to the deputy or manager.
Moving and Handling
- Ensure all service users that require a slide sheet all have their own and not shared with other service users.
- Ensure all service users that requires slings for the hoist have been assed and have their own slings in their bedrooms.
- Ensure you monitor the LOLER label (in date, charged, clean, suitable, working, assessed for, staff are trained, not damaged.
- Ensure all care staff to be aware of A.A.R.R
- Avoid – manual handling
- Assess – how much manual handling is required
- Reduce – the risk of injury to staff and service users
- Review at least once a month.
A Diploma in Health and Social Care Level 3 (previously NVQ Level 3) or equivalent and at least one year’s experience in care is desirable, but not necessary.

Salary
Competitive rates of pay, ranging from £13.70 – £23.03 per hour.
The hourly rate is dependent on the shift worked, with the higher rates being paid for evenings, weekend work & overtime. Starting with ‘shadow’ training, increasing during probationary period and increasing again once the probation period is successfully completed.
Travel time is paid between each care visit and mileage is paid for clients outside of the Saltash area.
Location
We cover Saltash and surrounding areas, including Hatt, Landrake, Tideford, St Germans and more.

Training
Comprehensive induction training is given to all new starters.
All mandatory training is provided and will need to be kept up to date annually.
